Looking back at my film opening I feel that at the start of this course, I was very naïve. During this task I feel that I attempted to tell a whole story in the 2 minute time limit, rather than just the opening to a film. This is what I feel let my product down the most, as it took its toll on the storyline, which now, doesn’t fully make sense, and that is what lets my finished product down the most.
I feel that my product, in comparisson to other existing film openings, isn’t the same standard. I feel the opening credits of my film look like they could be part of an existing film if used in the right film, it would potentially, look good. However, i feel the rest of my film isn’t as good as existing films, and this is my own fault. Another factor is that major film companies have a wider range of better equipment as well to use to their advantage and produce the best possible film they can.
I feel that my media product represents teenagers, who are my target audience, as teenagers are used as the actors in the film. I also think that it represents young, keen photographers as it is based on, photographers. I feel that this set of people, teenagers would be my target audience for my media product due to the reasons given above.
Throughout this task, i have learnt great amounts about the technologies involved in producing a media product. However, i feel that i still have much more too learn. Firstly, i already knew how to use a camcorder, but only the basics. I learnt more as i got used to the cameras and used them more frequently.
The editing software that we used was final cut. We used the apple macs to do all of our editing work. Overall, i have learnt how to add title credits to a film, move their position on screen and timing of how long they are on screen, at which point they appear and disapear. How to change the font, the colour, the size and the annimation of the different types of font and wording possible.
I also learnt how to import video footage from the camcorder to the computer, import this footage to final cut, chop the footage down to select the small clips/shots i want and put them into the correct sequence with the help of video transitions to make the transition look smoother. I learnt how to create my own soundtrack through garage band and use existing pieces of music from iMovie and edit the music and video together to add a good effect.
As well as this, i learnt how to save my finished media product as a file and upload it to the internet and to a dvd disk so that it could be watched through a dvd player on a t.v.
Since the beginning of my preliminary task, i feel that i have learnt so much more than i thought i would learn in the first year of this media course. I have learnt how to use a camera well, with a variety of different shots, how to upload and edit the footage to make the disired media product and how to finish the product so that it could potentially be distributed.
I have made many mistakes since the preliminary task, all of which i have learnt from and will not make again. Some of these mistakes were mis-filming things and deleting certain parts of footage off the computer and having to upload them again. One of the biggest and most costly mistakes i made during this task was filming too much footage and running over the allocated time limit of 2 minutes. This meant that when all of my footage was put together in the right order, i was over the time limit, meaning i had to cut out certain parts, which made the storyline a little blurry and confusing.
